The Marty Show:

The Marty Show is a short format concept show that takes a surreal look at classic sitcoms.

It features an ensemble cast, with Marty as the main character. The show develops slowly through surreal storytelling and absurd world building. The tone of the show swings between dark humor and absurd irony. The general feel is off-beat and dead-pan. Silly moments and strange characters leave you with more questions than answers, but if you look closely, you will find little hints hidden everywhere about what is actually going on.

The Marty Show answers deep existential questions with confused honesty.

The Use of AI & Workflow:

This is a personal, ongoing project, almost a therapy and frankly, without AI, it would not exist. No producer would fund this level of absurdity, and my own budget would never cover a traditional live action shoot. But do not mistake this for lazy prompting. It is a constant, intense ping pong game between me and the machine. My process changes with every single shot. Sometimes I block layouts in 3D or use 3D Objects that I have created myself in Blender as the blueprint. One of the newer characters like „Blobby“ was modeled before in Blender. Sometimes I use 2D collages or scribbles as a base. That’s how Doctor Carecrow (the scarecrow) was made. Other times it is all about heavy digital retouching before and after generation. I do, in a final step, VFX in some of the scenes. 50% of the sound design is created outside the AI. Sometimes I even dub characters myself, like the red rubber character „Blobby“.

Tech:

I use After Effects, Premiere, Photoshop, Blender and my phone. For additional sound design and general audio mixdown I use Ableton.

I use whatever tool gets me closer to my exact visual and auditory vision. All in it feels like a sculpting process.

The Marty Show. Episode 1-10.
